RBI holds awareness programme on Banking Ombudsman Scheme

Jammu, Dec 29: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in collaboration with Government Girls Higher Secondary School, RS Pura conducted an awareness programme on Banking Ombudsman Scheme (BOS) here.

As per the release, the programme was presided over by P Shimrah, Banking Ombudsman, RBI, while HS Verma, secretary OBO, Gobind Ram Sharma, principal of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, RS Pura, teachers, staff members and about 625 students of the school attended the programme.

   

P Shimrah, Banking Ombudsman for the State of Jammu and Kashmir, deliberated on the importance of financial freedom, in his inaugural speech.

He emphasised the importance of knowing where the money comes from and where it goes, spending money wisely which means having a budget, saving money and investing wisely, principle of sowing and reaping and the principle of contentment.

He warned the audience against investing in “Get Quick Rich Schemes” and mentioned that generally wealth is created in stages, and in small steps.

He said that Banking Ombudsman Scheme, which is for common man is a highly successful scheme and informed the audience that last year more than 1.64 lakh complaints were redressed within average time of 3 months.

HS Verma addressed the participants on the importance of Banking Ombudsman (BO) scheme for complaint redressal of the customers. “The BO scheme is free, fast, fair and it is very easy to file complaint in case the complaint is not resolved by the bank within 30 days of writing to it,” he said.

He also advised the participants to link their bank account with mobile number so that they get SMS for all activities in their account, be very careful while using ATM or debit or credit cards, note down CVV number separately which is printed on the credit card and delete it from the card to save them from future loss in case their card is lost or copied by someone.

He strictly told not to reveal bank account number, ID, PIN code number or OTP to anybody especially to those cheaters who ask for these details telephonically since no bank will ask them these details.

He also told that if they receive an SMS or email about winning a lottery, getting a gift or a draw one should not send money. In case of need, he said that the BO office can be contacted at bojammu@rbi.org.in.
