Tourism department to have MIS to speed up development projects

By end of July this year, Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department is mulling to have a robust Management Information System (MIS) in place to track real-time development and pace of ongoing works. Tourism department has decided to involve state of art information technology tool to speed up the various development projects under the Government of India and state government schemes. “The national informatics center has been deployed as nodal agency to develop a Programme Monitoring and Evaluation Software with some unique features,” said an informed official. “In the new system about 50 officials in various wings of the tourism department would assign separate login and passwords to submit their progress report by the 7th of every month.”

“The data collected by designated officers would then be processed and evaluated for review by senior officers of the department and then submitted to the Tourism Minister for final evaluations of progress,” said the official, adding that MIS would have feature to rank tourism development authorities, directorates, real time data on the number of tourist visiting various districts as well as monitor the progress of schemes.

   

The project is likely to be operational but the end of July this year. “The tourism department in consultation with information department is working on developing unique software to check the pace and progress of its development projects,” said Rigzin Samphel, the newly appointed Secretary of Tourism Department. “It will help us in making the existing system more transparent and effective and help us in meeting our development goals in time.” GKNN
