Advocates, medical emergencies exempted

The state administration Tuesday said that advocates and lawyers of the high court and other courts as well as medical emergencies are exempted from the ban imposed on movement of civilian traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Sundays and Wednesdays.

In an order, the divisional administration

   

said that advocates/lawyers of the high court and othercourts shall be exempted from travel restrictions and identity cards of theadvocates/lawyers shall be treated as travel passes.

“The magistrates/facilitators/police personnel present atall the critical crossing points/intersections of the NH-1A shall ensure thatthe commuters are allowed to pass the national highway in a hassle-free manner(sic),” the order, signed by additional commissioner Kashmir, read.

“All medical emergencies shall be kept beyond therestrictions and medical prescriptions shall be treated as travel passes by theimplementing agencies,” the order reads.

Pertinently, the state home department on April 3 orderedthat no civilian traffic shall be allowed on the national highway fromBaramulla to Udhampur twice a week to facilitate movement of forces’ convoys onthe road. The travel restrictions, according to the order, shall remain inforce on Sundays and Wednesdays from 5am to 5pm until May 31, 2019.

Giving reference of the home department’s order of April 3,the divisional administration Tuesday said that a meeting was held under thechairmanship of divisional commissioner Kashmir to “evolve appropriatenecessary procedures for smooth implementation of the government orderregarding regulation of civil traffic during movement of security forces’convoys on the national highway”.
