Baramulla: Two brothers drown while extracting sand in Jhelum

Srinagar, Jan 28: Two brothers drowned while extracting stand in Jhelum river in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, reports said.

They said that brothers - Nissar Ahmad Malla and Hilal Ahmad Malla – drowned early today morning in the river while extracting sand near Jetty at Khwaja Bagh.

The family of the duo has been called and efforts are on to retrieve their bodies, said an official.

The brothers hailed from Littarpira village of Bandipora district, he added.

The officials said that the body of Hilal Ahmad Malla was retrieved from the river this evening. Efforts are on to retrieve the second body, said an official, as per news agency KNO.

The locals termed the incident as unfortunate and appealed to the government to compensate the deceased family which has lost their bread earners.
