J&K braces for more rains

Srinagar, Apr 25:  Jammu and Kashmir is bracing for more precipitation as the Meteorological Department forecasted light to moderate rains in the plains and snow over higher reaches from April 26 onwards.

Meanwhile, night temperatures continue to hover below normal across Kashmir.

   

The Meteorological Department officials in Srinagar said that over the next 24 hours, generally dry weather with afternoon thunderstorms is expected in J&K.

There is also a possibility of hailstorm activity at isolated places in south Kashmir, Budgam, Poonch, Rajouri, and Banihal areas.

From April 26 to 28, generally, cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and light snow over the higher reaches is expected at most places, along with thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds in a few places.

There is a possibility of heavy rain over isolated places, particularly on April 28.

From April 29 to 30, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy with light rain and thunder at scattered places.

From May 1 to 3, generally, dry weather is expected across the region.

Regarding temperatures, the MeT said Srinagar recorded a minimum of 8.2 degrees Celsius, which is 0.7 degrees Celsius below normal for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 5.8 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees Celsius below normal, while Pahalgam recorded a low of 2.8 degrees Celsius, 1.2 degrees Celsius below normal.

Kokernag recorded a minimum of 6.7 degrees Celsius, 0.9 degrees Celsius below normal, and Kupwara town recorded a low of 6.7 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees Celsius below normal.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 2.7 degrees Celsius, below normal by 0.6 degrees Celsius.

In Jammu, the minimum temperature was 19.2 degrees Celsius, below normal by 1.8 degrees Celsius.

Banihal recorded a low of 7.4 degrees Celsius, Batote 10 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah 6.6 degrees Celsius.
