CM to inaugurate phase I of flyover

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will on Friday inaugurate the first phase of the Jahangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover between Amar Singh College and Barzulla crossing.

Of the 3.92-km-long flyover, the longest in the Valley, the phase-I 1.56-km stretch has been completed. The project has missed more than five deadlines.

“Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will inaugurate it at Amar Singh crossing at 11am,” said chief executive officer Economic Reconstruction Agency Farooq Ahmad Lone.

Work on the flyover started in 2013 with an estimated cost of Rs 369 crore. The project is being executed by the Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (JKERA), with Simplex Limited as the project contractor.

The construction was to be completed within three years. Initially, September 2016 was fixed as the deadline, but it was extended to March 2017 after the September 2014 floods. Work was again suspended in 2016 after labourers from outside the state fled the Valley in the wake of the uprising triggered by the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani.
