Conventional teaching imperative for students: VC IUST

The vice chancellor (VC) Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUS)  Prof Mushtaq Siddique on Tuesday said the process of conventional teaching in schools should not be left out by teachers however should be blended with the digital learning.

The vice chancellor was speaking at a felicitation function organized by the Private Schools Association Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) to felicitate three students of Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) who presented white paper on “Challenges in the Age of Artificial Intelligence & Machine learning” in the 4th Congregation of Education leaders held at Bangalore last month.

   

“The conventional level of learning should not be left because in a conventional learning u have very clear concepts. My advice to schools is not to go for digital learning but it is to be blended with conventional learning,” he said.

Prof Mushtaq Siddique who was also the chief guest at the occasion said it was important that the classroom which has an affectionate presence of teachers is not left out.

“Conventional teaching proves fruitful for students so it should not be left out. Personal touch is important even in the age of digital learning. We should not allow artificial intelligence to overpower our youth,” he said.

Earlier speaking at the occasion, secretary PHE, irrigation and flood control department Farooq Ahmad Shah said strong education system was foundation for a strong nation.

“Everyone everywhere is dependent on modified machine world as computer and artificial intelligence has taken over the world in a big way,” he said.

He hailed the PSAJK for holding the event to felicitate the outstanding students. “My submission to students is to be excellent in whatever the field they chose. J&K state has a history of better education and we as a society should take our education sector forward and make our valley a hub of education excellence,” he said.

President PSAJK G N Var said the association is giving in every effort to provide such platform to students wherein they can excel at global level.

“We have involved people from Microsoft to make our schools globally connected and give students an exposure which is missing in our state,” he said, adding that the youth of J&K state are talented but lack the platform.

Pertinently, three students- Mir Faizan, Mohammad Muneeb Wafaie and Tanzeel Fayaz of GVEI were presented with certificates at the event.

Ali Sait, director MasPRO- a Benglaru-based company, delivered a presentation wherein he highlighted the need to incorporate modern technological advancements in conventional teaching. Prof Hameed Naseem Rafiabadi presented vote of thanks at the occasion.
