Education takes a hit as Govt school in Kupwara area functions from 2 rooms

Kupwara, Mar 22: Government Primary School Hamla in Upper Rajwar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district is functioning in mere two rooms thus putting the students and teachers into a lot of inconvenience.

The students enrolled here are grappling with lack of accomodation with the result they are being taught under open sky and at the time of inclement weather. They remain crammed in the available two rooms which mars the quality education.

The residents said that after numerous representations, a double storeyed building was alloted to this school but due to unknown reasons the building is yet to be completed. According to locals two years have passed since the construction work of this building was started. “I fail to understand why the concerned authorities have failed to keep an eye on this project so that it could have been completed well in time,” said a local resident.

“An amount of Rs 40 lakh is being spent on the building but unknowingly the work has been left midway, thereby exposing students to numerous hardships,” he added.

Lack of accommodation also haunts teachers posted here. They want early completion of the building so that the hardships being faced by students may end.

Meanwhile Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Rajwar, Abdul Aziz told Greater Kashmir that he will personally look into the matter and assured that the construction of the school building will be completed on war footing.
