Educational institutions to remain closed in various districts

Fearing student protests against the recent killings, district administration in various districts have decided to continue with the closure of schools and colleges on Wednesday while the Kashmir University announced suspension of classes and postponement of exams.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, deputy commissioner Shopian said the schools and colleges would remain closed on Wednesday in the district.

   

Deputy commissioner Baramulla, Nasir Naqash, said the schools and colleges in Baramulla town, Sopore sub-division, Delina, Palhalan and Pattan areas would remain closed on Wednesday. “The educational institutions in rest of the areas in the district will remain functional,” the DC said.

District administration Kupwara has also decided to close several higher secondary schools and colleges in the district.

District administration Bandipora decided to suspend the class work in degree college Bandipora.

The Kashmir University has postponed all its exams scheduled on Wednesday.

“In view of concerns expressed by students, all Kashmir University examinations scheduled to be held on April 4, 2018 (Wednesday) are postponed,” spokesman of the varsity said, adding that fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified later.

He also said that there will be no class work in the varsity on Wednesday.

The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has decided to postpone all the exams scheduled on Wednesday.

“The exams slated for Wednesday have been postponed. Fresh dates will be announced later,” a spokesman of the varsity said.

A top official in district administration Srinagar said the divisional commissioner Kashmir would take a call on schools in the Srinagar district. However, the divisional commissioner was not available to speak to the media till late Tuesday night.

Educational institutions have been closed by the government since Monday after Sunday’s killing of 13 militants and four civilians by the government forces triggered a fresh wave of protests in Kashmir.

The government has been frequently closing the schools and colleges after last year’s student uprising against the killings of civilians.
