Kashmir range inspector general of police Swyam Prakash Pani said on Wednesday that elaborate security arrangements are in place for smooth conduct of elections in the Srinagar parliamentary seat on Thursday.
“For the Srinagar parliamentary constituency, comprehensivesecurity arrangements have been put in place for smooth conduct of the polls,”Pani told Greater Kashmir.
According to the poll security plan, a double-layerprotection for polling booths has been ensured, officials said.
“We have categorised polling booths as ‘critical’ and ‘verycritical’ and the security arrangements have been made accordingly,” anofficial said.
Inspector general of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)Ravideep Singh Sahi claimed that a “different security model” has been framedto “create a peaceful atmosphere so that voters are able to vote without anyfear”.
He said separate companies of security forces have been kepton “standby mode” to “deal with any law and order situations”.
“Separate teams have been deployed on ground to deal withmilitancy-related threats and challenges,” Sahi said.
He said adequate number of check-points and mobile check-postshave been jointly established by the police and CRPF on all “important roadlinks” to facilitate the movement of voters.
“Frequent patrolling will be carried out by mobile vehiclesof security forces to keep an eye on suspects,” he said.
Quick reaction teams (QRTs) and road opening parties (RoPs)have been directed to remain on alert mode to face any big challenge anywherein the poll-bound areas or along the state highways, he said.
“We have set up joint control rooms in all districtheadquarters for quick assistance and response to situations of differentnature,” Sahi said.
