Girls outshine boys in class 12 results

The State Board of School Education Monday declared the result of class 12 annual examination held in October last year, putting the overall pass percentage of students at 51.76. 

54 percent girl students qualified the examination, as against 50 percent boys, according to the official figures. This year, the merit list of top 10 positions is a mixed bag of government as well as private school students. 

   

48 students from government schools have figured in the list of first 10 positions shared by 92 students in the science, arts, commerce and home science streams.

Out of 69982 candidates enrolled for the examination, 36227 candidates have been declared as qualified.

Last year, the pass percentage was recorded as 61.44 as 33893 candidates out of 55163 had qualified the exams.

In stream-wise break-up this year, 37 percent boys and 45 percent girls have passed the exams in arts stream while 58 percent boys and 76 percent girls have qualified it in the commerce stream.

66 percent boys and 71 percent girls have passed the exam in science stream, the figures suggest.

The first ten positions in science stream have been shared by 44 students including 13 from government schools. Four students from government schools have shared the first three positions.

The first 10 positions in arts stream have been shared by 24 students including 18 from government schools. The first three positions have been shared by four students from government schools.

13 students have shared first 10 positions in the commerce stream including six students from government schools.  

Also, the first 10 positions in the home science stream have been shared by 11 girls from government schools.

Governor’s advisor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, secretary school education department Ajit Kumar Sahu and director school education Kashmir G N Itoo congratulated all the students, especially those from government schools, for their glittering performance. 

They also hailed the teachers for their efforts in improving the standards of education in government-run educational institutions.

BOSE chairperson Veena Pandita also congratulated all the students who qualified the exams. 

“Those who could not make it this year should take it as an opportunity to improve their studies,” Pandita said in her message. 

She also hailed the efforts of evaluators and BOSE staff for making it possible to declare the results within the stipulated time.
