Govt ignoring plight of anganwari workers, contractors: EJAC

Employees’ Joint Action Committee has expressed solidarity with the anganwari workers and contractors, terming their demands as “just” and “reasonable”.

At an emergency meeting of EJAC with its president Abdul Qayoom Wani in chair, the members and trade union leaders expressed serious concern over the plight of anganwari workers and contractors who are on strike for their “just demands.”

Wani condemned the government for its silence over the issue. He said the government was ignoring the plight of anganwari workers and contractors “who are working for the welfare of the poor people in difficult situations.”

Wani said “these poor workers are being treated as bonded labours and sometimes dragged to other assignments like election duty, census duty, plus polio etc., which does not pertain to them but are not being paid for such additional duties and nobody cares for their future and welfare.”

Wani urged Chief Minister Mahbooba Mufti , minister for Social Welfare Sajad Lone, and Chief Secretary B B Viyas, for their personal intervention in resolving their genuine demands.

The EJAC also showed solidarity with the Contractors’ Coordination Committee who are on hunger strike for their “just” demands.

Wani urged the government to resolve the genuine grievances of the contractors and demanded immediate release of their pending bills so that the contractors, their families and the people who are affiliated with them may not suffer any more.

A delegation of EJAC leaders headed by its senior vice president Fayaz Ahmad Shabnum and comprising Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, Haji Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Shabir Ahmad langoo, Syed Wajahat, Lateef Ahmad Malik, Farooq Ah Khan, Shabir Ahmad Bhat and others participated in the protest of Anganwari workers and contractors and showed solidarity with the protestors.
