Govt teachers taking classes at private tuition centres to face music

The School Education Department has tightened its noose against the teaching faculty of government schools for taking classes in private coaching centres.

The move comes in wake of the ban imposed on the teaching faculty of the government schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009 to take classes of students at private coaching centres.

The RTE Act became applicable in J&K in October 2019.

In a fresh case, a government school teacher in Baramulla district has been put under suspension after being found taking classes at a private coaching institute in violation of the laid down government norms.

The suspension order was issued by the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla on the instructions of the Director School Education Kashmir.

The CEO Baramulla has ordered suspension of the teacher with immediate effect and directed the teacher to remain attached with the Higher Secondary School Fatehgrah till further orders.

The suspension order states that the teacher was suspended after being found teaching students at a private coaching institute ‘Path Finder Baramulla’ at Ahmad Complex opposite Masjid Al-Rashaad in the town.

“On the basis of a complaint, a committee was constituted to investigate the matter and it inspected the coaching centre on Saturday. The committee reported that the complaint was based on facts,” the suspension order reads.

The order states that an explanation was sought from the teacher for violating the government norms.

“The inspection team reported that the teacher instead of giving any justification reacted violently and used filthy and foul language to disgrace the visiting team,” the order reads. “The teacher threatened the visiting team of dire consequences if any disciplinary action was initiated against him by the department.”

It states that there were specific orders of the government that the government teachers should desist themselves from engaging in any private institutions or private coaching centres which were already circulated to the school heads for strict implementation.
