Hurriyat (G) leaders, activists stage protest against Shopian killings

Srinagar, Mar 6: Hurriyat Conference (G) leaders and activists today held protest at Hyderpora here against the killing of four civilians in army firing in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. 

“The protesters rued the silence of the United Nations and international community over the civilian killings in Kashmir. The protesters, carrying banners and raising slogans against civilian killings, were marching towards Lal Chowk here. The police intercepted the protest march and arrested Syed Imtiyaz Hyder,” a spokesman of the Hurriyat, in a statement today, said.

   

 “What was the sin of innocent civilians and why Kashmiri youth are being killed and why is international community silent on these killings?” the spokesman quoted the leaders while speaking on occasion, adding that “This killing spree cannot be tolerated silently and Kashmiris will resist this genocide with valour.”

They strongly condemned the killing spree unleashed allegedly by forces in Kashmir. The leaders condemned the police raids, saying that “the police on Sunday arrested JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, Hurriyat general secretary Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji, spokesman Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Bilal Sidiqee, Muhammad Yusuf Makroo, Muhammad Ashraf Laya, Umar Aadil Dar, Khawja Nazir Ahmad and lodged them in different police stations.”
