In Bandipora, many who voted didn’t know candidates

People in upper belts of Bandipora assembly segment cast votes today to elect their parliament representative from Baramulla constituency.

Even as good number of votes were cast in Malangam, Ketsen,Binlipora, Watapora, Qazipora, Chittibandey, Muqam and Bonakoot villages, theenthusiasm which was in evidence during the recent Panchayat polls was missing.

   

Many of the voters who turned up at a polling station atMalangam village said that they didn’t know the parliamentary candidatescontesting from the constituency.

“I don’t know who the candidate is but I cast my votefor the symbol. I guess Muzaffar Hussain Beigh is contesting the elections forthe symbol I pressed on voting machine,” Mohammad Ismail Choker, 60, saidlittle knowing that Beigh wasn’t contesting at all. “I cast vote because it ismy right,” he said.

At some polling stations of Malangam, Binlipora and Ketsenmost of the voters were skeptical about the candidates saying they disappearedafter winning.

“The candidates promise a lot during the election campaignbut forget to fulfill it after winning. I cast vote and it is up to Almighty todeclare winner,” said Shahwali Khan of Binlipora.

At Malangam some youth who turned up to vote said that theyfavor Er. Rasheed as “he is fearless and raises voice against atrocitiescommitted against the innocent Kashmiris”.

“I am impressed by his speeches I believe he will raisehis voice in the parliament as well,” Shabir Ahmad Kalis, 25, said. Hisviews were endorsed by a few youth standing outside the polling station.

Brisk polling was witnessed in Sonawari assemblyconstituency. There was moderate polling in Bandipora and Gurez assembly segments.

Stray incidents of stone pelting were also reported fromareas of Bandipora including Khayar, Lawaypora, Shahgund, Saidunara, Ashtengoo,Kema and Aloosa.
