Kashmir-bound passengers stranded at Delhi airport

Dozens of Kashmir-bound passengers stranded at Delhi airport from January 16 due to inclement weather, Friday accused an airline of causing unnecessary delay in flying them home.

The aggrieved passengers said their Indigo flight on January 16 was cancelled due to inclement weather in Kashmir and rescheduled for Friday.

“We were scheduled to fly today at 2 pm but our flight was cancelled again. The airport staff after making excuses of bad weather left us stranded again. It is strange that while they cited excuses, many flights took off and landed at Srinagar airport,” said Umar, a passenger.

“Actually the fact is that they don’t want to fly half booked to Srinagar, since we are only around 30 passengers who have booked for the flight,” he said.

The passengers said there is heavy snow prediction for next four days and they don’t want to get “inordinately” stuck at Delhi airport.

When contacted, Indigo assistant floor manager in Delhi, Omar Farooq told Greater Kashmir that they were “facing issues due to continuous flight delays from 16 January owing to bad weather.”

“We don’t have any forecast for tomorrow and we will adjust these passengers in tomorrow’s flight”, he said.
