Kashmir braces for wet spell; night temperatures rise

Srinagar, Mar 27: With overnight cloud cover and a forecast for a wet spell, the night temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir increased on Wednesday.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) officials said Srinagar recorded a minimum of 9.5 degrees Celsius, significantly higher than the previous night’s 5.4 degrees Celsius, and well above the normal range by 3.4 degrees Celsius for this time of the year.

   

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 8 degrees Celsius, up from 4.4 degrees Celsius the previous night, marking a 3.3 degrees Celsius increase from the normal temperature.

Pahalgam saw a low of 4.7 degrees Celsius compared to 0.7 degrees Celsius the previous night, which was 3.3 degrees Celsius above normal.

Kokernag recorded a minimum of 7.7 degrees Celsius, up from 6.6 degrees Celsius, with a 3.5 degrees Celsius increase from the normal temperature.

Kupwara town recorded a low of 7.7 degrees Celsius, significantly higher than the previous night’s 3.3 degrees Celsius, marking a 3.2 degrees Celsius increase from the normal temperature.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 3 degrees Celsius, up from 2.8 degrees Celsius, which was above normal by 3.8 degrees Celsius.

Jammu recorded a minimum of 18 degrees Celsius, above normal by 1.4 degrees Celsius.

Other areas like Banihal recorded a low of 10.2 degrees Celsius, Batote 13.5 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah 9 degrees Celsius.

The MeT forecasted generally cloudy weather with light rain in plains and snow in higher reaches from the evening of March 27 to 28.

On March 29, partly cloudy weather with light rain or snow is expected at isolated places.

From March 30 to 31, partly to generally cloudy weather with intermittent light rain or snow is expected at a few places.
