Kashmiris stranded in Kargil demand evacuation

Scores of people from Kashmir stranded in Ladakh amid the COVID19 lockdown on Monday staged a protest, demanding their early evacuation.

According to the protestors, more than hundred peopleincluding traders, shopkeepers, labourers and truck drivers from various placesacross Kashmir were struck in Kargil and Leh.

   

The stranded people are now demanding immediate evacuationso that they could be with their families in the holy month of Ramadhan.

“We are without any work here. Everything is shut. We arerunning out of available stock and money, besides our families are also instress,” Muhammed Saleem Zargar, a businessman told Greater Kashmir overphone from Kargil.

He said they havecompleted all formalities including filling up of forms, submittingapplications and informing the administration of Ladakh and Kashmir about theirsufferings.

But, he said, they have not received any response from theauthorities so far.

There are reports that some stranded people in Ladakh wereasked by divisional administration to approach the authorities in Kashmir fortheir evacuation.

“We also contacted thedivisional administration Kashmir, but so far we haven’t got anyresponse,” the stranded Kashmiris said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Baseer ul HaqChaudhary said the administration was planning to evacuate the stranded Kashmirin the next few days.

“All these stranded people will be evacuated to Valleyas per the set protocol in the next few days,” the DC said.
