KU revokes order to extend tenure of contractual lecturers

The Kashmir University has revoked its decision to extend the tenure of the contractual teachers recruited in 2018. The university had earlier decided that the engagement can be extended “subject to the satisfactory performance of the lecturers.’

However,the varsity administration has advertised the posts for the recruitment of thecontractual teachers for academic year 2019. The move has enraged thecontractual staff recruited by the varsity in 2018.

   

Thecontractual teachers said the varsity was influenced by the permanent facultymembers who demanded fresh recruitment of contractual staff.

“Universityofficials and KUTA raised their voice against our continuation,” Mir said.

Earlier,the KU administration had asked the heads of the departments, directors andcoordinators to submit the list of contractual lecturers to be replaced.”Otherwise it will be presumed that the already appointed contractual lecturerswill continue for next academic session,” read a notification.

Thecontractual lecturers said the heads of the departments had submitted the listof lecturers whose role was not satisfactory but the administration stilldecided to go ahead with fresh recruitment.

“We received variousrepresentations within university to start fresh recruitment as we have so manyscholars who wanted to apply for this year. We have to think about theiremployment as well,” said registrar KU, Nisar Ahmad Mir. He said those who wereworking are also eligible to apply for the posts.
