Mainstream politicians, others condemn Lethpora attack

Mainstream politicians have condemned the attack on paramilitary CRPF convoy at Lethpora on Srinagar-Jammu highway. The attack left more than 40 CRPF men dead.         

Chairman of the Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali in a statement said that “my heart goes with bereaved families of brave soldiers who laid their lives for the nation.”

   

He conveyed his sympathies with families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.

BJP state president Ravinder Raina in a statement said, “Pakistan has been unnerved because of peaceful and successful holding of local bodies and panchayat elections by state administration and have caused this dastardly and inhuman act to spread fear among common man in Kashmir in view of impending elections in the state.” Talking to reporters, he said “the blood of martyrs will never go waste and the might of Indian Army will crush militancy and their masters across borders.” He expressed his sympathies to the families of martyrs.

“Strongly condemn the cowardly attack on CRPF convoy in Lethpora today. Deeply disturbed by this senseless act of violence. My heart goes out for the families of soldiers killed in the attack and pray for speedy recovery of the injured soldiers,” Peoples Conference (PC) chairman Sajad Gani Lone wrote on twitter.    

Chairman PDF Hakeem Yaseen in a statement said that “killing of human lives gives nothing other than leaving bad scars on humanity. Centre should rethink over its Kashmir policy and immediately start dialogue on resolution of Kashmir dispute so that ongoing bloodshed and mayhem is stopped.” 

Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) president and former minister, Ghulam Hassan Mir in a statement said, “killings and bloodshed will take us nowhere. There is need to put an end to the violence.”

He expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.

CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami in a statement said that “Killing of over 40 CRPF men is highly condemnable and it has once again reminded us that that violence is not the answer to resolve the issues. Killings can never be solution to any problem.”

“The Modi-government had promised, three years ago, to initiate a political process involving all stakeholders through a dialogue. This has not happened and must be done immediately,” he said.

Tarigami expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and demanded an immediate end to the killings.

Spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) in a statement condemned the attack on CRPF convoy and conveyed deepest condolences to bereaved families of slain CRPF men. He termed the attack as “cowardly and inhuman.”

The spokesman blamed Central government for miserably failing to restore peace in the Valley. “The wrong policies adopted by the Central government have vitiated the peace in Kashmir and there is no end to bloodshed.”

Senior National Conference leaders including Devender Singh Rana, Nasir Aslam Wani, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Surjeet Singh Slathia, Rattan Lal Gupta, Th Kashmira Singh, Ajaz Jan, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Vijay Bakaya, Trilochan  Singh Wazir, Bimla Luthra, Deepender Kour, Vijaylaxmi Dutta, Satwant Kour Dogra, Choudhry Haroon, S S Bunty, Abdul Gani Teli, Vijay Lochan, Dharamveer Singh Jamwal and others also condemned the attack on a CRPF bus and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.

Former Indian Army Chief and former Governor Gen. JJ Singh, who recently joined Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) condemned the  attack. “I salute their selfless sacrifice and my condolences to the families who lost loved ones. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured in this attack, “Gen J J Singh said in a statement
