Srinagar, Dec 17: Peoples Conference senior Vice President Abdul Gani Vakil Friday cautioned the National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership to stop befooling and exploiting people in the name of restoration of Article 370.
A statement of PC issued here quoted Vakil while addressing party workers meeting in Srinagar as saying that the people know that these parties were the real architects of erosion of the special status and party to more than 50 amendments over seven decades.
He said that that NC and PDP leadership had no roadmap on the restoration of Article 370 apart from mere rhetoric.
“NC wants to exploit the people of J&K yet again by projecting themselves as the sole guardians of Kashmir’s special identity while in reality they have time and again compromised on the special status of J&K for the sake of power. By resting the case of Article 370 on the Supreme Court, the NC and PDP are offering no alternate roadmap,” Vakil said.
He asked the NC and PDP leadership as to what happened to their slogans of autonomy and self-rule for which they had exploited people for decades for petty political gains to grab power.
“Issuing statements from lavish bungalows will not restore Article 370,” Vakil said.
He said that the PC believes that it was the Parliament and the Supreme Court that could restore Article 370 for which all the political parties should get united to convince the Parliament and the apex court that the restoration of Article 370 was in the interest of the country as the abrogation of the special status of J&K had distanced people to a larger extent from the mainstream.
Vakil said that the statements on vote division in Kashmir were an attempt to conceal NC and PDP’s role in dividing votes in PirPanchal and Chenab Valley which directly helps the BharatiyaJanata Party.
