New KU VC: Search committee to meet faculty on Mar 30

The search committee constituted to look for the new vice-chancellor of the Kashmir University will interact with the faculty and research scholars of the varsity at the end of this month.

KU registrar Prof Khursheed A Butt on Friday notified the schedule of the interaction, according to which the search committee shall interact with deans/HoDs/directors of centers, professors and associate professors on March 30.

This shall be followed by interaction of office bearers of Kashmir University Teachers’ Association, Kashmir University Officers Association and Kashmir University Ministerial Staff Association and the research scholars with the panel on March 31, the notification reads.

The search committee shall also visit the campus on the same day, according to the notification which has been sent to all officers and officials concerned.

The post of the KU vice-chancellor was advertised last month following constitution of the search committee by the university’s chancellor, Governor NN Vohra, in September 2017.

The search committee is headed by Prof DP Agarwal, former chairman of the Union Public Service Commission, with Prof Ehtisham Hasnain, vice-chancellor of Jamia Hamdard University New Delhi and Prof Vijay Gupta, former vice-chancellor of Sharda University as members.

The last date for filing of applications for the coveted position is 27 March 2018.

“After the interaction with the faculty, the search committee shall shortlist the candidates on the basis of their applications/CVs,” a source said. This may be followed by the interview of the shortlisted candidates.

“A panel of three persons shall finally be forwarded to the chancellor for the selection of the vice-chancellor in consultation with the pro-chancellor,” the source said.

The incumbent vice-chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi’s three year term ended in October 2017, following which he had filed a petition in the High Court seeking five-year term in accordance with the amendments made in the J&K Universities Act, 1969.

The Act was amended to the extent that the word “three” for the term of VC shall be substituted by the word “five”.

The High Court however dismissed the petition, saying it cannot be given a retrospective effect.

According to sources, some senior professors from the university, apart from several academics and researchers from outside the state have already submitted their applications.
