PDP MP meets Modi, demands release of Mehbooba Mufti

After the release of former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah,People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Member of Parliament Nazeer Ahmed Laway onMonday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded that party chief andformer Cheif Minister Mehboba Mufti should also be released along with OmarAbdullah.

After the meeting speaking to IANS, Laway said, “Thereare two Chief Ministers and many youths who are under detention and I havedemanded that all of them should be released.”

   

He said that the Prime Minister has assured him of moreaffirmative action and the detainees will be released soon.

The PDP MP has also said that he hopes “the politicalprocess in Jammu and Kashmir starts soon”. Laway hailed the Prime Ministerfor taking the initiative on the issue of COVID-19 and said that the PrimeMinister has done good work.

On the question of Pakistan raising Kashmir issue during thevideo conferencing with Prime Minister modi over coronavirus, Laway said,”We should not take Pakistan seriously.”

Former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha member, Farooq Abdullahwas set free on Friday after authorities said his detention under the PublicSafety Act (PSA) had been revoked.

Abdullah on Friday promised to be in the Parliament in thenext two weeks as he said he is recovering from an eye surgery.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad met Abdullah onSaturday, and sought early restoration of political process in Jammu and Kashmir.Azad had said, “the political process has to start. Only with politicalprocess, elections are held and the government is chosen by the people.”

Talking to the media along with Abdullah at the latter’sresidence, Azad said India was not famous for its size but democracy. But itwas no democracy when three former chief ministers were under detention forover seven months, and the fourth had to seek the Supreme Court’s permissionfor a visit, he added.

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday had announcedthat the government will formulate a domicile policy for Jammu & Kashmir, ademand many have made since the revocation of its special status last yearafter meeting with the 24-member delegation of the newly formed Apni Party ledby Altaf Bukhari in New Delhi.

The Home Minister assured the delegation that Jammu andKashmir will have a better domicile policy than other states in the country anda reasonable economic development policy will be drafted soon after widespreadconsultations, official sources told IANS.
