Power woes: Warpora residents hit streets to seek repair of defunct transformer

The residents of Warpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday hit streets against power department for failing to repair damaged transformer in the area.

The residents said more than a month ago they had approached authorities concern seeking repair of the damaged transformer. “Since then we are reeling under darkness,” a group of locals from Warpora area of Sopore said.

   

They alleged the department was adopting delaying tactics in repairing the defunct transformer and restoring electricity in the area. “Some 15 days ago the transformer was replaced but that too got damaged,” the locals said.

The junior engineer PDD Warpora, Imtiyaz Ahmed said the defunct transformer would be send to workshop for repair soon.

“Within a short time electricity will be restored in the area,” he said.
