Provided study material to 2.73 lakh students: DSEK

During winter vacation, study material was distributed among 2.73 lakh students of the government schools up to class 8th, Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) said Wednesday.

The move comes in continuation of the initiatives taken by the government to provide study material to the students during the closure of schools.

Director School Education Kashmir, Muhammad Younis Malik said 2,73,008 students were provided e-content on their WhatsApp numbers registered with the department.

“We have 8825 elementary-level schools in Kashmir of which 8617 schools received the study material for distribution among the students. Of the 3,85,003 students enrolled up to elementary level, 2,73,008 students received the study material prepared by their teachers,” he said sharing the data collected by the department till February 2.

Malik said the students were provided the study material to keep them engaged with their studies during the winter vacation period.

“The e-content was already available with the department as teachers are preparing e-content for the students for the past year after the schools were closed in the wake of COVID19 pandemic,” he said.

Following the closure of all education institutions after the outbreak of COVID19 in March last year, the School Education Department shifted to e-mode of education and prepared video lectures and e-content for students up to class 12th in order to compensate for the academic loss.

“We continued the practice in this academic session as well. The study material provided to the students will cover their syllabus for Unit I and Unit II exams,” Malik said.

As already reported by Greater Kashmir, the offline classes in the government schools would start after the winter vacation ends in the educational institutions.

“We are ready to resume offline classes in the schools. We have already started the process for sanitisation of the school premises and classrooms besides taking other measures to follow COVID19 SoPs,” Malik said.

He said around 1500 government schools were already open in Kashmir in which the department had started winter tutorials for the students during the winter vacation period.

“The schools are not completely closed. We are still holding deliberations with the stakeholders besides holding workshops to train the teachers and other officials in the department about the proper implementation of COVID19 SoPs,” Malik said.
