Relatives of militant killed last week called to Tral police station

Six days after his death in a grenade blast in police station, police on Saturday reportedly detained the relatives of slain Hizbul Mujahideen militant Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan to appear in police station Tral.

According to locals, on Saturday morning police called Chopan’s sister and brother-in-law to appear in police station Tral for questioning.

“They along with their one-year old ailing child presented themselves at the police station and were not released till late evening,” locals said.

“Despite repeated pleas from the villagers to police officials regarding the matter, there was no clear response from them,” a villager, requesting anonymity, said.

Villagers late night assembled on the road and were waiting for the release of the relatives of the slain militant, concerned over their detention.

Inspector general of police Kashmir, S.P Pani, told Greater Kashmir that the relatives of the killed militant “might have been called for questioning.”

“I will collect the details and share it with you,” Pani added.

Hizb militant Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan died and a policeman was injured in a grenade attack at police station Tral on Monday afternoon. Police have ordered an investigation into the incident.
