Baramulla, Apr 24: The residents of Badrali and Babagale in the Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have urged the Baramulla district administration for immediate action to repair a damaged portion of the road that recently caved in, severely impeding vehicular movement in the area.
The locals said that two months back, a section of the road near the Limber Uri, connecting at least two villages, suffered damage after a portion of it caved-in significantly disrupting traffic flow and posing a threat to the safety of residents.
The deteriorating condition of the road has sparked concerns among locals, who fear further deterioration of the road stretch if prompt action is not taken.
Farhan Lone, a resident of the area, said that the road is situated within a wildlife sanctuary. He said that the sudden collapse has not only caused inconvenience to visitors, but has also hindered the daily lives of local residents, who are afraid to ply their vehicles on the damaged portion of the road.
“The damaged portion must be urgently repaired to prevent further deterioration. Residents are wary of using the road due to safety concerns, and if left unattended, it could lead to unforeseen mishaps,” said Farhan Lone.
Bashir Ahmad, another resident, said that the vital role the road plays is that it connects several villages in the area. He stressed the urgent need for repair of the road to safeguard the daily lives of approximately 800 residents who rely on the road for essential travel.
“The immediate repair of this road is paramount. Any delay could result in the collapse of the entire stretch, rendering hundreds of residents stranded in their homes,” said Bashir Ahmad.
