Shopian gunfights: Kachdoora youth killed in forces’ firing, civilian toll mounts to three

The death toll of civilians killed in forces’ action in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday mounted to three with the killing of a youth in firing by the forces in Kachdoora village.

The deceased youth was identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Bhat of Kachdoora village.

   

Reports said that Bhat had received critical bullet wounds as the forces left from Kachdoora after the  gunfight ended.

Bhat was taken to sub-district hospital Shopian where from he was referred to district hospital Pulwama.

Medical Superintendent Dr Abdul Rashid Parra said the youth was declared dead on arrival at the facility.

Earlier, two civilians – Mushtaq Ahmad Thoker and Zubair Ahmad Bhat – were killed near gunfight sites. Thokar was owner of the house where militants were hiding in Darad village.

With Bhat’s killing, the toll has mounted to 17, including eleven militants and three army soldiers. Over 100 civilians were injured in the forces’ action.
