SKUAST starts training on satellite farming

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir on Friday started a 10-day training programme, ‘Satellite Farming: An Information and Technology Based Agriculture’ at the varsity campus.  

A statement said around 30 students and scientists areparticipating in the training aimed to acquaint them with the satelliteapplications and IT applications in agriculture and allied sectors.

   

The statement said the varsity’s Dry land AgriculturalResearch Station, Rangreth is organising the training in collaboration with thefaculty of horticulture’s Agromet Cell under National Agricultural HigherEducation Project (NAHEP). 

The ICAR and World Bank funded Rs 30 crore joint projectbesides bringing reforms in agricultural education, aims to inspire studentsfor creativity and innovation, enhance their skills, and make thementrepreneurship-oriented and job-ready.

The SKUAST, director planning and principal investigator,NAHEP, Nazir Ahmad Ganai stressed on imparting practical knowledge of satellitefarming to the students and inclusion of IT, artificial intelligence andsatellite farming in the curriculum. 

He said the vision of the NAHEP was to bring reforms inagricultural education of the University and make studentsentrepreneurship-oriented and job-ready.
