Sopore reeling under 15-hour power cuts

Frequent, long and unscheduled power cuts have annoyed residents of Sopore severely affecting daily life and business in the area.

The power development department recently announced nine-hour scheduled power cut daily for the apple town, however residents say on an average the average daily outages amount to more 15 hours.

“We have never witnessed such power cuts throughout our life. If PDD is unable to provide uninterrupted scheduled power supply then they don’t have the right to charge us for electricity,” said Haji Muhammad Ashraf Ganaie, a business leader of the town.

The worst unscheduled power cuts according to the residents are observed especially from the last one month, saying power supply to Sopore is worsening with every passing day.

The frequent power cuts have badly affected the business community and students adversely.

In an adjacent area of the town, residents lamented saying they are supplied electricity for just three to four hours each day, making life more difficult during the freezing cold.

Rafiabad and Zaingeer areas have a similar story to tell with just three to four hours of electricity supply made to the areas.

No official of PDD was available for commenting on the bleak situation.
