Teacher deputed to food deptt ‘in the interest of administration’

A government teacher posted at a primary school in Rajouri has been deputed to directorate of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs (FCSCA) with the state authorities claiming that the decision was taken ‘in the interest of administration’.

The move has however evoked criticism.

The order for deputation of Muhammad Shakeel, the teacher at primary school Rajdhara, was issued by commissioner secretary General Administration Department (GAD) on Wednesday.

His deputation period has been fixed one year, according to the GAD order, adding the teacher should retain seniority and promotion prospects in his parent department and shouldn’t claim permanent absorption or any other incentive.

But the move is in violation of the government claims that the teachers won’t be given any non-teaching assignment.

“These government claims remain confined to papers only. There are dozens of such cases where teachers have been sent on deputation in office of deputy commissioners,” said an official in school education department, wishing not to be named.

Another official alleged that many teachers use political influence to manage their deputation to other departments.

The education minister Altaf Bukhari said he wasn’t aware about the issue, but assured that the department will recall the teacher.
