Will ensure incident-free polls, says police

A day after an audio clip in which a Hizbul Mujahideen militant is purportedly threatening to pour acid into the eyes of those who contest the upcoming panchayat elections in Kashmir, the police said on Monday that it was “ready to meet any challenge” and will ensure the “best-possible security arrangements for incident-free polls” in the state.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a sports function here,  deputy inspector general of police (central Kashmir range), Ghulam Hassan Bhat said that police will put in place “the best possible security arrangements to ensure free, fair and peaceful panchayat elections.”

   

He emphasised that there is “perfect synergy and coordination” among various security agencies and the police on ground.

“The panchayat elections would help redress daily issues confronting people and the police will make elaborate arrangements to ensure that these elections are conducted peacefully,” he said.

About the audio clip wherein a militant commander is talking of targeting those participating in upcoming panchayat elections with acid, the DIG Bhat said that the security agencies are “ready to counter any such threats and ensure peaceful elections.”
