Yasin Malik pays tributes to victims of Handwara, Kupwara massacres

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik has paid glowing tributes to the victims of Handwara and Kupwara massacres on their “martyrdom anniversary” being observed on January 25, and January 26, respectively.

“The massacres at Handwara and Kupwara by forces on 25th and 27th January 1990 are a glaring proof of hollowness of democracy,” Yasin Malik said in a statement.

“Killing thousands of innocents can only be termed as act of savagery aimed at suppressing the peaceful voices of Kashmiris by its military might,” Malik said.

Meanwhile, the JKLF chairman strongly condemned the “brutal assault” on photojournalists Wasim Indrabi, Nisar-ul-Haq, Junaid Gulzar, Mir Burhan and others at Shopian by the forces.

He said, “The pellet firing on these journalists is an attempt to suppress the voice of media. Such attempts and assaults are most condemnable and heinous.”

Expressing solidarity with another photojournalist Bilal Bahadur, who was injured while performing his professional duty at Baramulla, JKLF chairman prayed for his speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, Malik also paid rich tributes to the Front leaders, including Muhammad Hussain Hakak , Manzoor Ahmad , Abdul Jabbar Amjad, Muhammad Altaf Mir and others who were killed during ongoing struggle.

“These great men are real heroes of Kashmiri nation. Their struggle and sacrifices can never be forgotten and Kashmiri nation is indebted to them ,” Malik said.
