Youth subjected to forced labour in Kulgam: HCBA

Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Srinagar, today condemned what it said “the summoning of youth and snatching of their identity cards by the army in Ashmuji village of Kulgam district.”

“After summoning them to the camp, they are beaten and subjected to the forced labour,” the HCBA spokesman, in a statement today, said.

He said, “The Bar Association maintains that by calling the youth to their camp and beating them over there and also forcing them to do labour jobs, the army is violating their legal as well as fundamental rights.”

“The Bar Association feels that the statements made by three boys namely Muhammad Amir Sheikh, a final year student, Umar Rehman Dar, class II student, Suhail Ahmad Dar, final year student), 40-year- old Muhammad Altaf Khanday, in this regard and reported by the media, should not be brushed aside so easily, the spokesman said, adding that “International Community as well as the Human Rights Organisations, functioning all over the world, should therefore, take immediate notice of these events and come forward to stop the humiliation of the people of Kashmir at the hands of Army,” the spokesman said.
