Ladakh parliamentary constituency | Looking for reasons why not given mandate: BJP MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal

Kargil, Apr 28: Sitting Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, who was denied mandate for the parliamentary elections this time, today said that he is looking for the reasons behind the party’s decision.

Talking to media persons in Kargil, JT Namgyal said he will decide about future course of action within few days after consultations with his supporters.

BJP recently announced chief executive councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) in Leh Tashi Gyalson as its candidate for the UT’s solitary Lok Sabha seat.

Namgyal expressed his resentment saying he would deliberate on the issue with his supporters before taking a call on his future action within next few days.

Once the poster boy of the BJP in Ladakh, Namgyal recollected how he travelled the length and breadth of the region in the past five years. “Every day I worked for the development of the UT and its people. We performed well in LAHDC Kargil and retained Leh hill development council. We restored BJP’s glory in the region and I think I did my bit,” he said.

The visibly upset Namgyal said he had sought reasons from senior party leaders over him being denied the party ticket. ” I tried to know from the senior party leaders that I stray from the party ideology, underperformed in the parliament, misbehaved with anyone or did I commit any scam. Even my supporters are at wit’s end and they also did not expect this decision. Though we are not against the BJP and we purely go by the party ideology, I will meet with my people in the next couple of days and deliberate upon the issue before we take a collective decision,” he said..

Nitably, Ladakh, which goes to the polls on May 20, is already awaiting a multi-pronged contest as the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) — which are leading the protests in the UT for demand of statehood and 6th Schedule for Ladakh — are also expected to field a joint candidate. On the other hand, the Congress is likely to field its contestant from the UT under INDIA bloc.
