New Delhi, May 1: Early Wednesday morning, approximately 100 schools across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) were disrupted by bomb threat emails, sparking urgent search operations and concerns for student safety.

Some media outlets quoting police sources said that the origin of the email has been zeroed to the Russian domain and further investigation is continuing. Among the affected institutions were known schools like Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Mother Mary School in Mayur Vihar, and Delhi Public School in Dwarka.

The threat received around 4 am on official school email accounts, claimed the presence of explosives on campus, prompting immediate action. At Mother Mary School, media reported that when an exam was underway, the process was halted midway, and an emergency evacuation was initiated.

Delhi Public School also swiftly responded, ensuring the safe return of students to their homes as a precautionary measure. As panic spread among parents and communities, several other schools opted to dismiss students early, amplifying the disruption across Delhi.

Despite extensive search efforts by police officials, including bomb detection teams and disposal squads, no suspicious items were found on the premises.

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena assured the public of the Delhi Police’s diligence in investigating the source of the threatening emails, hinting at potential links to similar incidents targeting airports and hospitals in recent days.

“The Delhi Police have traced the origin of the emails. I am assuring citizens of Delhi that the police are alert, getting leads, and will take strict action,” Mr Saxena said to the media.

Central agencies have joined the probe, while both the Home Ministry and Delhi Police emphasized the need for calm, labelling the threats as likely hoaxes.

As concerned parents rushed to retrieve their children from schools and authorities worked to ensure safety, the incident highlights the vulnerabilities of educational institutions to cyber threats and the need for swift, coordinated responses to safeguard communities.
