Srinagar, May 22: The flight tracking data of London-Singapore plane which met a severe turbulence on Tuesday, suggested the plane dropped more than 1800 metres (6000 feet) in just five minutes over the Andaman Sea before it was diverted to Bangkok.

One person died while thirty others injured in the incident which struck Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300ER. With 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board, the aircraft landed in Bangkok at 3.45 pm (0845 GMT) where emergency crews rushed to help injured amid story weather, the airline said in a social media post.

   

A video of the moment when turbulence hit the aircraft was shared on social media which showed the cabin violently shaking and horrified passengers tightly holding onto seats.

Visuals from inside the plane surfaced on social media which showed the state of horror amongst passengers in the aftermath of the turbulence. Images from inside the plane showed a disheveled cabin with oxygen masks and parts of the vessel hanging in the air and an injured flight attendant

The Singapore Airline authorities expressed its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, and vowed to working on with the local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical help.

“Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased,” the airline said. “We are working with the local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical assistance, and sending a team to Bangkok to provide any additional assistance needed.”
