Coronavirus: Masoodi raises evacuation of Kashmiris from Iran in LS

National Conference MP HasnainMasoodi on Thursday raised the issue of stranded Kashmiris in Iran, in the Parliament, saying those stuck in the country and their families were going through mental agony and trauma.

A statement said while speaking in the LokSabha duringQuestion Hour, Masoodi said the students stranded in the Iran, which has seenrise in the cases of Coronavirus, were mostly keeping themselves confined to theirhostels fearing they might also contract the disease. 

   

“As the Iranian government is wrestling with spread of thevirus infections, the government of India should swing into action and takenecessary steps to come to the rescue of stranded Kashmiris,” Masoodisaid.  

While seeking early return of the stranded passengers,students, businessmen Masoodi urged the Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardan toensure their wellbeing. 

The statement said in his response the Union Minister saidthe government was industriously working on the problem and that a team ofexperts from India was on way to Iran to test the stranded Indians for thevirus as well as giving required medical aid to them.

Later, the MP while having audience with the Minister askedhim to take concrete steps towards ensuring the safety and wellbeing of thosestranded in Iran from J&K.

Earlier, Masoodi, who has been pursuing the issue with Uniongovernment had sought audience with the Union Minister of External affairs SJaishankar in New Delhi and urged him to expedite the return of all strandeddevotees and students from Iran.

Masoodi apprised the Minister about the tribulations ofscores of families who were worried for their kith and kin stuck in Iran. 

The statement said Masoodi was informed by the Mministerabout slew of measures have been taken by the ministry towards the safeevacuation of stranded Indians from around the virus-hit countries,particularly Iran.
