New Delhi, Apr 30:  The Times of India has reported that Election officials in Bhopal are implementing innovative strategies to combat low voter turnout. They have announced a series of measures to boost participation, including frequent lucky draws with enticing prizes such as diamond rings, refrigerators, televisions, and more.

With voter engagement a top priority, Bhopal officials plan to hold lucky draws every two hours in the constituency on the day of voting, scheduled for May 7. Voters who cast their ballots stand a chance to win exciting rewards, fostering excitement and encouraging civic engagement.

The initiative comes amidst concerns over dwindling voter turnout, particularly evident in the preceding Lok Sabha election phases. In Madhya Pradesh, the turnout has seen a notable decline, dropping by over 8.5% on average during the initial rounds, said the TOI report.

District election officer Kaushlendra Vikram Singh highlighted the rationale behind the move, emphasizing the aim to raise awareness and incentivize voter participation. The strategy involves conducting three lucky draws at each polling booth throughout the day, with winners receiving prizes on the spot. Additionally, a post-election mega draw is scheduled to distribute larger rewards to lucky participants.

Bhopal parliamentary constituency boasts over 2,000 polling booths, translating to a substantial number of prizes up for grabs. The initiative also includes special recognition for the first voter at each booth, further encouraging timely participation.

Ritesh Sharma, assistant nodal officer for SVEEP in Bhopal, shared insights into the preparations, including the collection of gifts and prizes through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Efforts are underway to secure additional contributions, including two-wheelers, to enhance the allure of the rewards.

Beyond the lucky draws, officials are ensuring accessibility and convenience for voters by providing printed voter slips to every constituent, aiming to streamline the voting process and eliminate any barriers to participation.
