33 major city junctions to get camera-mounted traffic lights

The agency contracted for installation of traffic signals in Srinagar city has been given strict instructions to complete the project within 100 days. 

The instructions were issued in a meeting held Saturday under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary.

An official statement said the agency Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) Limited has been told that it can take an additional three weeks for testing and making the lights operational.

It was said the district administration will extend all assistance to the agency for time-bound execution of the project.

The meeting was informed that the existing traffic lights will also be upgraded and integrated as part of the project.

The DC while speaking on the occasion said non-adherence to the new deadline will attract stringent action against the agency.

It was said traffic lights are being installed at 33 different crossings and junctions as part of the project. It was informed that the project includes installation of CCTV cameras on traffic lights and integration of the traffic signal apparatus with a common control room which will systematise monitoring of traffic movement and recording of traffic violations in the city. Commissioner SMC, RTO Kashmir, SSP Traffic City, Joint Director Planning, DIMTS Limited representatives among others attended the meeting.
