33 major city junctions to get camera-mounted traffic lights

The agency contracted for installation of traffic signals in Srinagar city has been given strict instructions to complete the project within 100 days. 

The instructions were issued in a meeting held Saturdayunder the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid IqbalChoudhary.

   

An official statement said the agency Delhi IntegratedMulti-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) Limited has been told that it can take anadditional three weeks for testing and making the lights operational.

It was said the district administration will extend allassistance to the agency for time-bound execution of the project.

The meeting was informed that the existing traffic lightswill also be upgraded and integrated as part of the project.

The DC while speaking on the occasion said non-adherence tothe new deadline will attract stringent action against the agency.

It was said traffic lights are being installed at 33different crossings and junctions as part of the project. It was informed thatthe project includes installation of CCTV cameras on traffic lights andintegration of the traffic signal apparatus with a common control room whichwill systematise monitoring of traffic movement and recording of trafficviolations in the city.Commissioner SMC, RTO Kashmir, SSP Traffic City,Joint Director Planning, DIMTS Limited representatives among others attendedthe meeting.
