The Nashri-Banihal stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway saw a massive traffic jam today with hundreds of vehicles remaining stuck for hours together.
Sources said that the passengers, particularly the women, children and elderly, who were stuck in the traffic jam, faced huge inconvenience.
Sajad Ahmed, a passenger travelling to Kashmir, alleged that the traffic police personnel were not present at certain crucial places on the highway.
Mohammad Qasim, a passenger from Batote told Greater Kashmir over phone that he had boarded a matador at Bus Stand, Ramban at 3 pm. “It is now 6 pm and we have travelled only eight kilometers due to traffic jam.”
Sources said that the Nashri-Banihal stretch often sees traffic jams because “the subcontractor companies of the NHAI are digging at the site for erecting retaining walls and have dumped the construction material there.”
