Young boys being lured to carry out attacks: Kumar

The government Friday said that “some agents” were trying to lure young Kashmiri boys to carry out attacks but security agencies were making efforts to defeat “such designs”.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at theForensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Bemina, governor’s advisor on securityaffairs K Vijay Kumar said the boy detained for “throwing a grenade at Jammubus stand was an ordinary boy”.

“(It is a) very unfortunate incident. He (the boy) is onlythe tip of the spear. There are elements that have motivated him. He is a veryordinary youngster and they have made him into a mercenary. You may notremember but in Yemen, for 50 cents or whatever, young boys were made to throwgrenades,” Kumar said.

“Using an innocent mind for achieving some target which theywill never achieve is cruel and brutal. We are all together in this. We won’tallow the agents behind these acts to succeed,” he added.

Kumar, who was flanked by IGP Kashmir SP Pani, termed thegrenade attack “a despicable act”.

“The boy is not alone and there are agents behind him. Weare at it and won’t allow the agents to succeed.”

Asked whether the security was beefed up in Jammu’s busiestplaces, Kumar said that appropriate measures are being taken after thoroughconsultations by the security agencies.

Barely two hours of the attack in Jammu bus stand, thepolice claimed to have held a young boy from Nagrota.

A Kulgam resident, the boy’s family said he was a minor andclass 9 student.

Asked how government viewed the situation in the state inthe backdrop of the Lethpora attack on February 14 that left 40 CRPF men dead, Kumarsaid that security scenario is stable in most of the parts and fragile incertain parts.

“This has been the case with the J&K for some time. Weare focussing on the areas where situation is fragile in a coordinated mannerto ensure that a common man comes out to vote in an easy and safe manner as andwhen the polls are announced by the ECI,” he said.

He said the government was trying to keep the situation asstable wherever it is peaceful.

About the withdrawal of security from the mainstream andseparatist leaders, the advisor said the decision was taken at the highestlevel after thorough deliberations.
