Secretariat employees demand safe passage to Kashmir

The secretariat employees union met Advisor K K Sharma on Monday and put forth their concerns regarding the hardships they have been facing here.

President of the association, Ghulam Rasool, told Greater Kashmir, “We informed the advisor about the incidents of violence that happened with us during the past couple of days. We told him how we were left prone to attacks, how the mobs pelted stones at us, damaged and torched our cars and vandalized property.”

“The advisor told us that they have arranged for police protection for us. We did not agree to that point, as we have already seen the total administrative collapse. We have seen how police did not act in time and let the miscreants attack us. We have seen how the administration totally failed in providing security to their own employees.”

The union also informed advisor Sharma that they will not come to office unless they and their families are provided safe passage to Kashmir. “Once we reach Kashmir safely, we will settle our families. Then we will come back to Jammu, without our families, and try to help the government in bringing back normalcy,” the president told Greater Kashmir.

The advisor told the union members that he will talk to the chief secretary and come back with a concrete solution.

Later, the advisor toured Janipur housing colony where he met the residents and took stock of the damages.
