Baramulla administration takes note of fake SOS calls on Internet

Taking strong note of fraudulent practices of seeking financial help for ailments by uploading SOS calls on Internet, the deputy commissioner Baramulla has issued an advisory seeking action against the culprits.

Terming such practice unethical and aimed to mint money, theadvisory reads: “It has been observed that some persons have  opened bank accounts and made suchcalls/posted videos on social media for financial help which afterinvestigation/inputs from the people have been found fake and baseless thusindulging in extortion of money.” The administration has evolved a procedureaccording to which such video can be uploaded only after seeking permissionfrom the designated officials.

   

As per advisory, the bank authorities have been directed notto open account for the aforesaid purpose unless requisite permission is notissued by the designated authorities. The police have been directed to keep eye on such SOS calls, and takeaction in case violation of the order is noticed. Cases from various areas havesurfaced that some people are uploading videos seeking financial help on fakepretexts.
