BMO Pattan attached for 'violating' MCC, 'embezzling' public money

The Block Medical Officer Pattan has been attached for allegedly violating the model code of conduct during the recent election process for the Baramulla parliamentary constituency.

The official has been attached following two complaints against him before the election commission of India alleging that the official “has violated the MCC besides embezzling hospital development fund.”

Soon after the complaint was received, “the district election officer Baramulla asked the chief medical officer Baramulla to initiate an enquiry against the said official.

“Following the district election officer Baramulla’s communication, the chief medical officer Baramulla ordered attachment of the BMO Pattan and constituted a six member committee to inquire in to the allegations,” sources said.

“In response to the district election officer Baramulla letter dated 27-04-2019 regarding the complaint against Dr Masrat Iqbal Wani, BMO Pattan of violating model code of conduct and illegally withdrawing huge amount from hospital development fund, the BMO Pattan is hereby attached with Block Medical Officer Rohama and shall be deemed to have been relieved from Block Pattan,” reads the order of CMO dated 27-4-2019.

Sources said that action has been taken after PDP candidate for Baramulla parliamentary constituency, Abdul Qayoom Wani lodged a complaint before the chief election commission of India alleging that the official is “violating model code of conduct by involving himself and the subordinate staff in favour of J&K People’s Conference and J&K National Conference candidate for Baramulla parliamentary constituency, thereby using official machinery and support to influence voters”.

The complainant in his complaint has also named four other officials of Bandipora district and has levelled same charges against them, sources said.
