Commissioner Secretary Industries & Commerce, MK Dwivedi Friday visited Government Woollen Mills, Bemina here and took stock of ongoing works undertaken under World Bank-funded Jehlum Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP).
Managing Director JKI, Sanjay Handoo briefed the Commissioner Secretary that new machinery was being procured to replace those which had been damaged during the 2014 floods under JTFRP besides a Showroom cum Interpretation Centre was being constructed at Rs 11.74 crore.
The Commissioner Secretary was informed that with the installation of new machinery the production capacity of the unit would increase significantly and additional one lakh kg of locally produced raw wool would be used to weave quality tweed fabric, thus bringing economic benefit to hundreds of sheep rearing families.
