Authorities in Ganderbal have asked all licensed gun holders in the district to deposit their weapons with their concerned police stations within five days in the wake of the parliamentary elections announced on Sunday.
An official said that the orders have beenissued to ensure free and fair elections.
“In order to ensure free, fair andtransparent elections, it is hereby ordered that all the civilian Arms licenseholders, ex armed force personnel in Ganderbal district have to deposit theirweapons in the nearest police stations by 15th March,” reads an order issued bydistrict magistrate Ganderbal, Hashmat Ali khan.
Senior superintendent of police forGanderbal shall ensure compliance of the order through concerned Station HouseOfficers, the order says.
