Governor inaugurates GMC Baramulla

Governor Satya Pal Malik Thursday reiterated the government’s commitment of providing a better and affordable healthcare system in the state and observed that every possible effort is being made to strengthen the healthcare institutions in every nook and corner.

He made the remarks after inaugurating Government MedicalCollege Baramulla.

   

Pertinently, GMC Baramulla has been sanctioned at anestimated cost of Rs 189 crore, wherein a batch of about 100 MBBS studentsshall pursue their medical education during its 1st academic session.

K Vijay Kumar, K K Sharma and K Skandan, Advisors toGovernor, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Member Parliament, BVR Subrahmanyam, ChiefSecretary, Umang Narula, Financial Commissioner, Atal Dulloo, FinancialCommissioner, Government Health and Medical Education, Dr G N Itoo, DistrictDevelopment Commissioner Baramulla, and Principal GMC were present at theinaugural function.

Terming the inauguration of the college as a milestonetowards healthcare infrastructure of Baramulla district, the Governor notedthat every effort is being made by his administration to build an inclusive androbust healthcare delivery system at all levels of healthcare. He extendedheartiest congratulations to the newly enrolled MBBS students and handed overadmission letters to them.

Citing the successful launching of the recent ambitious Backto Village programme, the first of its kind, and an effective and innovativemeasure of public outreach, the Governor said that an efficient publicgrievance redressal mechanism has been the cornerstone of his administration.”The programme was launched with the special aim of proactively seeking publicfeedback at the grassroot level, besides delivering various facets ofgovernance at people’s doorstep,” he said.

Akbar Lone, in his address, appreciated the role of theGovernor’s administration in strengthening healthcare system and hoped thatpresent administration will continue to work in the direction.

Advisor Kumar highlighted the significance of the college inimproving the status of medical education in the state in general and in thedistrict in particular.

Advisor Sharma lauded the efforts of health sector towardsdelivering better health care facilities and assured every possible support inmaking it more effective.

Advisor Skandan stressed upon imparting quality educationand said that an efficient teaching faculty shall be provided in the college.

The Chief Secretary enumerated the list of achievementsrecorded by the state in health sector and said that J&K has achieved thetop slot in the performance of Ayushman Bharat programme.

The Hippocratic Oath ceremony was also held on the occasion,during which the students pledged to work with dedication towards the largerinterest of the society.
