LoC heats up again

An army soldier and a Border Security Force man were killed in separate incidents of firing by Pakistani army alone the Line of Control in Kupwara and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.

An army spokesperson said that Pakistan army “violated ceasefire in Kumkadi area in Machil sector of Kupwara at around 10.45am”.

   

“The ceasefire violation was strongly retaliated by our troops. During the exchange of gunfire, one of our soldiers was killed,” colonel Rajesh Kalia said.

The deceased soldier was identified as rifleman Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Etah village in Uttar Pradesh.

Last week, an army soldier was injured in ‘one-shot sniper fire’ by Pakistan rangers in Machil area, according to the police.

“The soldier was identified as lance-naik Pradeep Kumar who was injured at Kilo post in Machil area after a fire came from the front side of the Pakistan area,” senior superintendent of Kupwara, Shriram Ambarkar said.   

On the same day, Pakistani army allegedly attacked another army post at Kathwali area on the side of Gujjardod.

“Only one shot was fired towards the Indian post but no fatalities were reported,” Ambarkar said.

BSF MAN KILLED, ANOTHER INJURED

Meanwhile, a Border Security Force man was killed after Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district on Thursday, a spokesman of the force said.

“At 15.50 hrs today, Pakistan violated ceasefire at Sunderbani. During effective retaliation, at around 16.30 hrs, two BSF personnel of 126 battalion were injured and evacuated for treatment,” the spokesman said, adding: “Unfortunately, constable Paranjit Biswas of 126 BN succumbed to injuries. In this hour of grief, the Force stands in solidarity with the bereaved family of the deceased soldier.”

The injured BSF man, who is under treatment, was identified as constable Mansaram.
